What is the Monkey Forest?

La Forêt des Singes is a zoological park located in the Lot department, in the Occitanie region. The park is home to over 150 Barbary macaques, also known as magots.

Covering more than 20 hectares of woodland and open meadows, the Monkey Forest offers the monkeys freedom, safety, and space to move peacefully in a natural environment. For visitors, it’s a unique opportunity to observe these animals up close without cages or barriers.

During your visit, you’ll enjoy direct and familiar contact with the species. The vast grounds allow you to relax while learning more about the Barbary macaques that live there.

When to Visit?

The Monkey Forest is open daily. The best time to visit is during the summer months, when the weather is pleasant and the park is fully active.

Opening hours vary by season. In August, the park is open from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

Getting There from Camping L’Eau Vive?

The Monkey Forest is located near the campsite, in the direction of Rocamadour, not far from the route to Figeac and Montpellier.

From Carennac, head south via Padirac, and you’ll arrive in Rocamadour, where the park is situated.

A large car park is available for visitors, suitable for both cars and coaches.

What to Expect During Your Visit?

All visits are well organised and supervised by a professional team. Guides are on hand to provide information and accompany visitors throughout the experience.

No special equipment is required helmets or protective gear are not needed. However, some safety instructions will be given upon arrival.

Reservations are not required, except for groups of 20 or more..

Admission Prices

  • Adults : 9,50€.
  • Children (ages 5–14) : 5,50€.
  • Children under 5: gratis
  • Reduced adult rate: 8€.
  • Reduced child rate : 4,50€.
  • Group rates available for 20+ people

Reduced rates apply to students, people with disabilities, and holders of a Cezam card (proof may be requested).

On the grounds of La Forêt des Singes, you’ll find a refreshment bar where you can enjoy a drink or take a short break.
